CREI Summit: Mind Over Media
I recently joined the “Mind Over Media: Navigating Drama and Protecting Your Mental Health” panel, where industry experts shared practical strategies for maintaining well-being in our digital world.
I discussed doom scrolling and protecting mental health online—the same strategies featured in my recent article on the topic. The timing was perfect, given current events and the growing need for these conversations.
Key Insights
I emphasized being mindful about our information diet:
“Think about your information diet. Humans weren’t meant to take in this much negative information all the time.”
The session covered four main strategies:
-
Track your create vs. consume time ratio
-
Take breaks in nature
-
Connect with people in real life
-
Treat online negativity like parsley—ignore it and focus on what matters
Audience Feedback
The panel was well-received. One attendee shared:
“I am pretty drama-free and didn’t think I’d get much out of this. Was wrong, great session.”
Even those who consider themselves unaffected by social media drama can benefit from intentional strategies to manage digital consumption.
